Gearbox Services

Gearbox fluid lubricates the gearbox’s gears, bearings, and other internal components. If gearbox fluid isn’t changed, heat, pressure, and friction slowly break down protective additives. Metal shavings from the gears inside the gearbox can also contaminate gearbox fluid, damaging components and shortening the gearbox’s life. The result can be thousands of dollars in repairs. Regular auto gearbox services replace dirty fluid and reduce the risk of fluid leaks.

American LubeFast® offers three auto gearbox services:

  • Rear differential services
  • Transfer case services
  • Front differential services

  • Old gearbox fluid is recycled to help keep the planet green.

What is a Gearbox?

A gearbox is a set of gears in a casing connected to the engine. Shifting gears changes the speed and torque of your vehicle.

How Does a Gearbox Work?

Your engine generates the power needed to move your vehicle. This power is transferred to the wheels through the gearbox. If the gearbox is manual, the driver selects the gear shifts. If automatic, an electronic sensor selects the gear changes. In either case, the gearbox controls the efficient use of engine power. Without a gearbox, the wheels would receive the same power and spin at high speeds all the time. Your gearbox prevents this.
